Want to Crew!
Posted Monday, 22 June 2009 By Administrator
I recently relocated to the D.C. area from Oregon, and am very
interested in
opportunities to crew in Etchells Fleet 28. Do you have any tips for
how I
might best get out on an Etchells?
I have experience racing in dinghies as well as keelboats. I was an
active
crewmember on Thistles in the Eugene Oregon fleet last year and at the
outset of this season. Before moving to Oregon, I spent a season racing
on
a 40' keelboat out of Berkeley (San Francisco Bay). Since coming to the
D.C. area, I have gotten an opportunity to race in several regattas on a
Lightning and a couple of J105s.
This all goes to say that, while I am not a two time All-American sailor
who
made the US Olympic Team, I do know my way around on board and really
enjoy
racing. The Etchells struck me as a boat that I would like to sail when
I
first saw them on the Bay outside Berkeley years ago. It looks like
there
is a very active fleet here, so I am hopeful that this might be my
chance to
get out on the water in an Etchells as I decide which Annapolis
one-design
fleet I want to settle down in.
I am 5'8" and weigh about 160lbs.
Thank you in advance for your input!
Regards,
Dan
